Aakash Chopra Offers a Scathing Opinion on India’s T20I Squad Against the West Indies

After some significant decisions were made by the BCCI on Wednesday, July 5, when they released the T20I squad, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has deciphered India’s lineup for the forthcoming five-match T20I series against the West Indies.

With Hardik Pandya ready to assume the captaincy once again in the shortest format, the selection committee chose to keep an eye on the workloads of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli under the leadership of new head selector Ajit Agarkar. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma received rewards for their outstanding performances in the local circuit and the IPL 2023 season, however Rinku Singh’s name was conspicuously absent.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-61048″ src=”×2-11zon-750×500.png” alt=”” width=”1562″ height=”1041″ srcset=”×2-11zon-750×500.png 750w,×2-11zon-1024×683.png 1024w,×2-11zon-768×512.png 768w,×2-11zon-150×100.png 150w,×2-11zon.png 1200w” sizes=”(max-width: 1562px) 100vw, 1562px” />

Rinku was anticipated to be on the trip for the Caribbean, especially with the veteran players on rest after his aggressive innings and his unbelievable show of five sixes against Yash Dayal of Gujarat Titans lit up the IPL 2023 season.

Chopra believes that, with the exception of Rinku, none of the eligible names who were anticipated to be in the Indian T20I team were overlooked by the selectors.

The former cricketer-turned-commentator also said that the pace bowling battery is a bit weak and expressed concern about Tilak’s place in the batting order. Chopra continued, feeling that Varma shouldn’t bat lower than number 4.

“Fast bowling seems a little frail. While it’s reasonable to have concerns about the players chosen, there aren’t many names that deserve to be included. A bit empty in the cabinet. Chopra tweeted, “(Assuming Chahar’s return is getting managed),” after the BCCI’s formal announcement of India’s lineup for the five-match T20I series beginning on August 3rd.

“However, Rinku Singh’s non-selection is something distinct. At 3-4-5, SKY, Sanju, and Pandya? At six, Tilak? Alternatively, why not play Tilak when Ishan opens? Personally, I prefer that Tilak not bat below a 4. Just my opinion,” he said.

In the IPL 2023 season, Rinku finished 9th on the list of top run scorers with 474 runs scored at an average of 59.25.

Looking to leave his imprint on Indian cricket, the 25-year-old is now competing for Central Zone in the Duleep Trophy semifinals.

Sanju Samson (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Surya Kumar Yadav (VC), Hardik Pandya (C), Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik, Avesh Khan, and Mukesh Kumar make up India’s T20I team.
